Hi! I’m Miyuki. Call me MILKY. I was born and raised in Hiroshima city (near Hiroshima station). I have lived in Osaka for about 15 years (enrolled in a university of foreign studies and stayed in Osaka for working for a while) and came back to Hiroshima. Now I live in Kure city with my husband, which is located next to Hiroshima city to the east.
I like traveling and eating out. I travel mainly within Japan. When I was in twenties, I studied abroad at Arizona State University in the US for about a year. I have visited Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and Australia. I went to Italy for my honeymoon when I was in thirties. I liked studying other languages such as Chinese and Italian. I’m afraid I forgot most of them, though.
My favorite food is okonomiyaki, Japanese savory pancake, our soul food. I’m very pleased to find that the word “okonomiyaki” has been registered in the Oxford English Dictionary in 2024. As a Hiroshima local, of course I prefer Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki to Osaka-style. It has much more cabbage inside and more filling and more delicious. I’d like you to try Hiroshima specialties as much as possible if you like. (Why don’t you stay overnight at Hiroshima to eat a lot?) We have oysters, lemons, Hiroshima beef, spicy dipping noodles, dan-dan noodles without broth, momiji manju, etc. If you like drinking, we have one of the three major sake districts in Japan, Saijo, which is located about 40 minutes train ride from Hiroshima station. There you can see a beautiful scenery which has 7 sake breweries within a walkable distance. Enjoy tasting sake and learning sake making.
I started working as a tour guide because I’d like tourists to enjoy Hiroshima more and share fun with them. I also enjoy rediscovering Hiroshima with tourists. Tourists give me various perspectives. A lot of people have praised Hiroshima, so the more I guide, the prouder I feel of it.
I got the qualification of Hiroshima Prefectural Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in 2019 and did several tours before the pandemic. I restarted working as a tour guide in spring 2023. I guide tourists Saijo (Sake town), Okunoshima (Rabbit Island), Takehara (Little Kyoto), besides the popular spots like Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima. I do food tours, too. On Wednesday night, you can enjoy the local entertainment dance performance called Kagura in downtown. You’ll get to know a little bit Japanese mythology by seeing Kagura.
