Title: What Is a Private Cruise Port Shore Excursion to Nanzoin Temple Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting from Europe who had arrived by cruise ship, and this trip was to celebrate a birthday. Because the next port of call required immigration procedures, the group needed to return to the ship by 2:15 pm, so we moved up the meeting time and used taxis for part of the route that had originally been planned on foot or by bus. Taxis wait at stations and the cruise center so there was no problem there, but every attempt to request a car by phone was declined with the response that "there are no cars available." It seems app-based reservations are now prioritized, but frequency of use, service fees, and payment by the guest all present challenges for a guide to use the service personally. The guests wished to collect a commemorative stamp in their own stamp book at Nanzoin Temple, but it took considerable time to understand the rule that goshuin stamps can only be placed in a goshuincho purchased at Nanzoin itself, and with the temple grounds being so large and time being short, we were not able to obtain stamps at all of the stations. Even so, the guests seemed pleased to have been able to receive at least one. They also seemed delighted to see the colorful and intricate sand mandala created without any underdrawing by three Mongolian monks, though great care had to be taken as the wind could scatter the sand. Although it was a rushed schedule, the guests appeared to enjoy the experiences at the other spots as well.
