What's a Private Day Tour of Kyoto Like for Cruise Ship Visitors? A Licensed Guide's Report

Today's guests were a group from North America. They arrived by cruise ship and, after visiting Kyoto, planned to continue to Sendai next. The guests were all relatives, and some of them spoke Spanish, with one member interpreting between English and Spanish. We first went to Ginkaku-ji (the Silver Pavilion), where I was surprised by how many school trip students there were. After that we went to Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), which was also at the peak of school trip season. Since one of the guests had difficulty walking, we did not go up to the higher areas and instead walked only around the Golden Pavilion. Afterwards we had lunch at a restaurant near Kinkaku-ji, where they tried desserts such as zenzai and warabi-mochi. Since they wanted to be back at Osaka Port by 4 o'clock without fail, we had to give up visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha due to time constraints. As they wanted to see a five-story pagoda, I had them take photos near To-ji, and my tour came to an end. I believe they enjoyed themselves. A notable stop on the tour was Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion. Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf, making it one of the most iconic sights in Japan. Originally built in the late 14th century as a retirement villa for a shogun, it was later converted into a temple and is set beside a reflecting pond that mirrors the pavilion beautifully across the seasons. It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts large numbers of visitors throughout the year.

Thank you very much for choosing JGA experience, and please allow me to briefly introduce myself. I’m Kaeko Tanigawa, your tour guide, and I have been showing tourists from abroad around mainly in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka areas. Every year I’ve guided my guests through those areas for over 80 times. I always try to do my best to help my guests explore and enjoy our unique and attractive locations, and I’ve been lucky enough to receive so many 5-star reviews from the guests I hosted. I’d like to help make your visit to Japan one of the most wonderful memories in your life. I’m really looking forward to seeing you soon. Thank you very much.
