What's a Private Kyoto Tour of Arashiyama and Gion Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. The previous day they had explored the Higashiyama area, and today we headed to the Arashiyama area. Since one of the guests had difficulty walking long distances, we took a taxi to Arashiyama. We took a leisurely stroll through the bamboo grove near the Okochi Sanso villa and also walked through the Tenryu-ji Temple garden. After that, we took a taxi toward Kinkaku-ji, but as walking was too difficult, we decided against it, and since the guests wished to see Gion, we headed there instead. We strolled a little around Tatsumi Bridge and Hanamikoji Street, then took a break at a nearby cafe before returning to the accommodation and parting ways. I believe the guests enjoyed themselves. A notable stop on the tour was Tenryu-ji Temple in Arashiyama. Tenryu-ji is one of Kyoto's most important Zen temples and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 14th century, it is renowned for its Sogen Pond garden, designed by the famous Zen master Muso Soseki, which beautifully incorporates the surrounding mountains as borrowed scenery. The garden is considered one of the finest examples of a traditional Japanese landscape garden and offers striking views throughout the seasons.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kyoto Private Tour
Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
