- Travel to Shirakawa-go
- AM 11:20 – PM 15:00 Strolling around Shirakawa-go: Hachiman Shrine, Myozenji Temple, Kanda House, Wada House, Ogimachi Observation Deck
- Travel to Gokayama Ainokura Village
- PM 15:30- 16:45 Yusuke tour, washi paper-making experience, village observation deck
- Travel to Kanazawa
- PM 18:05 Tour ends at Higashi Chaya District
What Is a Private Day Tour of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from Europe. They enjoyed taking their time exploring Ogimachi in Shirakawa-go and Ainokura in Gokayama. I had heard in advance that the guests usually do not stop for lunch, so I thought we might have extra time in Shirakawa-go, but as I gave explanations at each spot, we ended up running almost short on time. The timing of the shuttle bus to the Ogimachi Observation Deck was not convenient, and it was also crowded, so we decided to walk up to the observation deck instead. It was a bit of a challenge, but the guests said it was good exercise and felt refreshing. At Ainokura, they also enjoyed a paper-making experience and were delighted to have made a nice handmade souvenir. A notable stop on the tour was Ainokura in Gokayama. Ainokura is a historic village famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses, which feature steep thatched roofs designed to withstand heavy snowfall. Along with Shirakawa-go, the village is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers visitors a glimpse into rural life in Japan as it was centuries ago. Its peaceful mountain setting and preserved architecture make it a memorable destination for those interested in Japanese history and traditional crafts.

Yoshi is an exceptional guide where he took us to the best market stalls at the fish market where every food we indulged in (including the sea snails and eel liver) were superb. The walking tour of the tea houses (Geisha district) and knowledge of the history of both the precinct and greater Japan was first class. Yoshi is also a kind and caring person and made conversation very easy, including when we wanted to dig into the country’s cultural values and lifestyle

YOSHI met us at our hotel and was very friendly and helpful. We walked around the city and he took us to view several different spots including samurai living quarters, geisha houses, the beautiful garden built by Maeda san. Yoshi was knowledgeable about the entire city and it’s treasured history. He inspired me to do some reading on Maeda san, a leader who played a huge part in the development of the city. Yoshi was an excellent guide, and even provided a LOT of recommendations and useful information for after our tour. We would definitely recommend YOSHI san! Note: you will need a IC card to board some of the city buses.

We had a fab tour with Yoshi our guide, we visited the tea district then the gardens and castle which were my favourite. Yoshi was very informative , explaining the history and mechanisms of the castle was built and the water system. He was also very helpful with explaining the bus service.
