Title: What's a Private One-Day Tour of West Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting Japan. The tour had originally been scheduled for the 22nd, but the date was changed due to an approaching typhoon. By chance, my schedule on the 25th was open, so I was able to take over the booking as it was.

Among the requested destinations was Gotokuji Temple, which is located away from the other spots, so I guided the group there first. Even so, all the other spots were on the west side of Tokyo, which was helpful as it did not take much time to move between them. While the first half of the tour progressed at a fairly quick pace, in Shibuya the guests shopped at the "Straw Hat Store" for the manga "ONE PIECE," and afterward also stopped by a shop dealing in vintage items in line with one guest's interests, so the time spent there was longer than usual. In the end, this allowed for a good overall allocation of time.

A notable stop on the tour was Gotokuji Temple in Tokyo. Gotokuji is a Buddhist temple widely known as one of the birthplaces of the maneki-neko, the beckoning cat figure believed to bring good fortune. Visitors can see large numbers of these white cat figurines dedicated throughout the temple grounds, creating a distinctive and memorable sight. The temple's peaceful atmosphere and its association with good luck make it a popular destination for those interested in a quieter, more traditional side of Tokyo away from the busier tourist centers.

Hi. My name is Masafumi Miyazaki. Please call me “Sam”. I am a government-licensed guide.
I was born in Tokyo and was raised in the suburbs of Tokyo called Tama area. When I was in university, I majored in western dramas, so I am good at playing like an actor.
I like reading, listening to the music, and walking. I belong to several walking clubs, and sometimes I guide the members around Tokyo.
One of my strengths as a guide is that I know well about kombu, Japanese kelps. In December every year, I work at a traditional kombu shop in Tsukiji Fish Market. At that shop, I learned a lot of things related to kombu or other ingredients for washoku. I can explain the different characteristics of them to you.
Also, I am familiar with Japanese flowers and plants. If you stroll around a Japanese garden with me, I am sure you will be able to enjoy beautiful flowers and unique plants in every season.
