【タイトル】 What Is a Private One-Day Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya

【本文】 The guests were visitors from North America. After being assigned, I could only reach them once, which was a bit worrying, but when I emailed again the day before, I received a reply and felt relieved.

Since we had not been able to communicate much beforehand, I confirmed the hotel booking and prepared an itinerary myself. As the guests had no particular requests, I guided them along the most classic course (Nijubashi Bridge, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya).

They showed great interest in Japanese culture and history, which made guiding them very easy. They were also delighted by the Shibuya Scramble Crossing.

It was a tour without lunch, so I had them buy some water along the way and we took a short rest at the resting area in Meiji Shrine. I heard they had lost a cane at the airport, but they walked well without any complaints, which was a great help. I made sure to proceed with the tour while checking in now and then to ask if everything was all right.

Since we were short on time, we skipped Asakusa, so I explained how they could go there on their own. After explaining the route home, I saw them off at the Ginza Line Shibuya Station and said goodbye. It was a short tour, but I spent an enjoyable time with the guests.

A notable stop on the tour was Meiji Shrine. Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in central Tokyo, dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Surrounded by a large forest of around 100,000 trees donated from across Japan, it offers a peaceful retreat from the busy city. Visitors can experience traditional Shinto customs such as making offerings, writing wishes on wooden plaques, and passing through the grand wooden torii gates that mark the entrance to the sacred grounds.

I’m Yoko Kusumoto, a government lisenced English-speaking guide.
I have been living in Tokyo for more than 20 years, and it’s my pleasure to show you around Tokyo. I recommend Meiji Shrine and Asakusa if you are first time in Japan. I also recommend off-the-beaton path spots like Fukagawa Fudodo and Gotokuji Temple(lucky cat temple).
I was born and brought up in Kamakura, where the first shogun’s government was established. It will be my pleasure to introduce you my hometown as well.

I live with my husband and one teenage son.
I like traveling, flowers, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and exploring Tokyo.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.
