What's a Rainy-Day Private Tokyo Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa

The guests were lovely visitors from North America. Since it was raining in the morning just as the weather forecast had predicted, we took a taxi to Meiji Shrine. We walked through Meiji Shrine in the rain, but the humidity was not too bad, which was pleasant. By the time we reached the Shibuya Crossing, the rain had eased to a light drizzle. For lunch we enjoyed soba and tempura at a department store, which was very well received. We browsed the basement food floor of the department store, and the guests did some shopping at a cloisonné shop. In Asakusa the rain had stopped, and we could see the Skytree clearly. After visiting Nakamise and Senso-ji Temple, we took a break at a matcha cafe. The weather forecast had called for rain all day, but the afternoon turned sunny, which was very lucky. It was a very enjoyable tour. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is one of the city's most visited sites. Visitors approach the main hall through the iconic Kaminarimon "Thunder Gate" and along Nakamise, a lively shopping street lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. The temple is dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, and its striking architecture and vibrant atmosphere make it a highlight of any visit to Asakusa.
