Title: What Is a Rainy-Day Private Tour of Arashiyama in Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests came from North America and were traveling around various parts of Japan by cruise ship. The original meeting point at the time of assignment was Kyoto Station, but they requested to be picked up at the Tempozan Port Terminal instead, so I changed the meeting point. The day before, they asked to move the meeting time earlier than 9:00, so we agreed to meet at 8:00. It was cloudy at the start, but soon a light rain began and continued throughout the day. Since it was not heavy rain, the green of the moss was very beautiful and even snails were moving about, so I feel we were able to have a wonderful tour even on such a rainy day. They had already gone sightseeing in Kyoto the day before, visiting Kiyomizu-dera, Gion, and Nijo Castle, so they said they had booked a tour of Saga-Arashiyama for today.

A notable stop on the tour was Arashiyama. Located in the western part of Kyoto, Arashiyama is famous for its scenic beauty, including the iconic Bamboo Grove and the Togetsukyo Bridge spanning the Katsura River. The area is home to numerous temples and gardens, and it has been a favored retreat for the aristocracy since the Heian period. Its lush greenery is especially striking in the rain, when the moss and foliage take on a vivid, tranquil quality.
