What's a One-Day Private Tour of Kanazawa Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visiting from North America on their first trip to Japan together. Since they would be staying in Kanazawa for only one day, the tour was arranged so that I could introduce places where the guests could enjoy themselves on their own in the afternoon. At the sites we visited, including Shima teahouse, Seisonkaku Villa, and the samurai district, the guests showed great interest and enjoyed the explanations. Because it was the Silver Week holiday period, events such as the Kanazawa Jazz Street and the evening light-up at Kenrokuen Garden were being held, so after the tour the guests decided to return to the Hotel for a rest before heading back out into town again. A notable stop on the tour was Kenrokuen Garden. Kenrokuen is considered one of the three most beautiful landscape gardens in Japan, alongside Kairakuen in Mito and Korakuen in Okayama. Originally developed as the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle by the ruling Maeda clan over nearly two centuries, it features winding paths, ponds, streams, teahouses, and carefully arranged trees. The garden is celebrated for offering distinct beauty in every season, from cherry blossoms in spring to snow-covered pines supported by rope structures in winter, and its evening illuminations during special events draw many visitors.
