What Does a Private One-Day Traditional Tokyo Tour Look Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visiting from Oceania. They had arrived in Japan the previous day, and today was their first day of sightseeing in Tokyo. During a stay of about ten days, they planned to visit Kyoto and Osaka after Tokyo. It was their first visit to Japan.

During our advance discussion, they expressed a wish to visit traditional places, so I guided them to Meiji Shrine, Hamarikyu Gardens, Asakusa/Senso-ji Temple, Yanaka, and Nezu Shrine. Both were very friendly and listened attentively to my explanations. They took photos at various spots, saying "Beautiful," and seemed to be having a wonderful time. In the end, they appeared satisfied with all of the places we visited.

For lunch, they had requested Japanese cuisine in general, so we went to a restaurant in Asakusa. They enjoyed this as well, saying "Delicious."

At the end, at Nezu Station on the Tokyo Metro, I explained how to get back to their hotel, and the tour concluded. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the seventh century, and is dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Visitors approach the main hall through the iconic Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and along Nakamise-dori, a lively shopping street lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. The temple's grand five-story pagoda and bustling grounds make it one of the most visited and photographed landmarks in Tokyo.
