Title: What Is a Private Guided Day Tour of Nagasaki Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests had let me know in advance that they wanted to visit the Atomic Bomb Museum, so I took them there first. After meeting up, we talked together about other places they wanted to see, and I took them to Glover Garden and the Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum. Since the guests were from Asia, we also came to reflect on Japan's history of wartime aggression, which was a very valuable learning experience for me as well. At the Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum, the guests were very knowledgeable about history and already knew why Christianity had been banned, as well as the history of the hidden Christians. For lunch, I first suggested miso ramen, but after confirming that the broth contained pork, I took them to an udon restaurant instead. Because I have a soba allergy, I ate separately. After that, they enjoyed the views at Glover Garden, and since they wanted to buy matcha as a souvenir, I took them to a shop I frequent.
A notable stop on the tour was Glover Garden in Nagasaki. Glover Garden is an open-air museum on a hillside overlooking Nagasaki Harbor, featuring several preserved Western-style residences from the late 19th century, when Nagasaki was one of Japan's main gateways to international trade. The garden is named after Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottish merchant whose former home is the oldest surviving Western-style wooden house in Japan. Visitors can stroll through the historic buildings and terraced grounds while enjoying panoramic views of the city and port below, making it one of Nagasaki's most popular and scenic attractions.

Hello, I’m Rikako, but please call me Coco. It would be my absolute pleasure to show you around my hometown of Nagasaki. Having performed in the Nagasaki Kunchi Festival in my childhood, I developed a deep interest in history and cultural exchange. This motivated me to become a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter during my university years. Since then, I have gained valuable experience—from assisting ambassadors at the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony to handling a wide variety of tours, including private and coach tours, site inspections, international conference support, and VIP hospitality.
Explaining about Nagasaki’s history and culture is the most important to me. It is not only about this. I would love to provide genuine care so that your time in Nagasaki remains in your heart forever.
I’m truly looking forward to guiding you in Nagasaki 🙂
