What Can You See in a 4-Hour Private Tokyo Tour of Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a lovely group visiting Japan from Europe. Starting at 11:00, we covered the highlights of Meiji Shrine, Shibuya, and Asakusa in four hours without a lunch stop. Neither Meiji Shrine nor Senso-ji Temple was crowded, so the guests were able to stroll at a relaxed pace and enjoy some shopping. Their conversation about Europe on the Ginza Line train heading from Shibuya to Asakusa was very interesting. After Asakusa, I guided them through the basement of the Ginza Mitsukoshi department store, introduced them to a stationery store and a clothing store, and we parted ways. The weather forecast had predicted rain, but we were lucky enough to avoid it, and it was a very enjoyable tour. A notable stop on the tour was Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Senso-ji is Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in the 7th century, and is one of the city's most iconic Buddhist sites. Visitors approach the main hall through the famous Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) with its giant red lantern, followed by Nakamise-dori, a lively shopping street lined with stalls selling traditional snacks and souvenirs. The temple's atmosphere blends centuries of history with a vibrant, welcoming setting that makes it a memorable destination for first-time visitors to Tokyo.
