Tour Itinerary
- 9:00 Hotel Moot(@Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma)
- 9:00-9:45 Travel (City Bus; Gojo → Gojozaka)
- 9:45-11:40 Visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple (including Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka, Yasaka Pagoda, and Koshin-do)
- 11:40-12:05 Travel (City Bus; Kiyomizu-michi → Higashiyama Shichijo)
- 12:05-13:00 Visit Sanjusangen-do Temple
- 13:00 Tour Ends We parted ways with the guests in front of Sanjusangen-do.
Title: What's a 4-Hour Private Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Sannen-zaka, and Sanjusangen-do
The guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. Originally, the plan was to take the group to Kiyomizu-dera Temple (including Yasaka Pagoda and Koshin-do), Sanjusangen-do, and Fushimi Inari Taisha, but Kiyomizu-dera and Ninen-zaka took more time than expected. After finishing the visit to Sanjusangen-do, we had reached exactly the 4-hour tour duration, so we concluded the tour there.
At Kiyomizu-dera, the group was determined to lift Benkei's iron staff (90 kg), so they waited in line for 30 minutes to take on the challenge. At Ninen-zaka, they also waited 20 minutes to buy Frozen Fruit. Because of this unexpected use of time, the guests fully understood and accepted that we were unable to reach Fushimi Inari at the end, and the tour concluded.
Since the guests planned to visit Fushimi Inari on their own the following day, I explained the highlight points of visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha at the end of the tour before we parted ways.

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
