What Is a Private Bonsai Village Tour in Omiya Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a very close-knit group visiting from Europe. This was their fourth visit to Japan, but their first time visiting the Bonsai Village. At the Bonsai Museum, they were first moved by the lobby bonsai, a rock-planted Japanese white pine combined with lingonberry and pear. They were also very interested in the highlights and history of bonsai. In particular, they were impressed by the tokonoma display, admiring the arrangement of the main bonsai, the side alcove, and the hanging scroll. Although it was a hot day exceeding 30 degrees, everyone said they were fine, so we took our time enjoying the garden as well. The guests viewed each piece carefully, and we had a delightful conversation. They purchased the English versions of the guidebook and history book, along with postcards and magnets, and then headed to the bonsai gardens. At Mansei-en, I introduced the shimpaku juniper that had been exhibited at the Osaka Expo. From among the bonsai pots placed at the back of the garden, each of them found a treasure and made a purchase. Passing through the House of the Four Seasons, we visited Seikou-en and Fuyou-en. After thoroughly enjoying the bonsai, I guided them to their return train at Toro Station (they mentioned they were heading to Shimbashi) and said goodbye. It was a wonderful day.

Hello, my name is Miyuki. I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter since 2019. I was born in Saitama, 30 km north of Tokyo. I have lived there until today. I like Japanese traditional culture. I love bonsai and work as a guide in the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum. I am also learning the tea ceremony. Both bonsai and tea ceremonies make you feel relaxed and refreshed. I used to be a member of a Japanese archery club when I was a university student. Visiting shrines, temples and traditional gardens also makes me happy. You cannot miss eating Japanese food and sweets after visiting there. Let’s enjoy walking around Japan together!

Wollen wir zusammen bummeln und entdecken, was Tokyo ist!
Ich empfehle Ihnen auch einen Besuch zum Omiya Bonsai Dorf. Da kann man sich allerlei Bonsai Bäume ansehen.

Fantastic tour from start to finish with wonderful Miyuki. She guided us from our hotel to the village on the excellent rail line and then guided us around the museum and several nurseries. We learned so much more than we would have on our own about the history of the village and how bonsai are created and nurtured. She pointed out rare and unusual specimens in the private nurseries. Her English is excellent and she was so pleasant and personable. She went above and beyond. So much fun. The tour was a highlight of our trip.
