What Is a Private Nagasaki Cruise-Port Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The tour began at the international cruise terminal in Nagasaki. I had been waiting in front of the terminal exit from 11:00 for an 11:30 meeting, but the guests had disembarked a little earlier and were in a different spot, so they came over to me and we were able to meet without trouble. The reservation was for the group.

We first traveled by streetcar from Ourakaigandori to Ishibashi, then used the Skywalk and other routes to reach the second gate of Glover Garden, where we entered. At Glover Garden, I introduced the modernization of Japan during the Meiji era and the achievements of Mr. Glover, who was involved in it. After leaving Glover Garden, we soon arrived in front of Oura Cathedral, where I explained the episode of the "Discovery of the Hidden Christians."

When I asked the guests, they said they were happy to have lunch, so I made a reservation at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and we headed there. I joined them as well, and we spent about an hour over lunch. After leaving the Chinese restaurant, we strolled through Chinatown and then took the streetcar to the Atomic Bomb Museum.

At the Atomic Bomb Museum, I explained about the photograph "The Boy Standing by the Crematory" displayed at the end of the exhibition, telling them to be sure to see it, and then they viewed the exhibits. After visiting the museum, we saw the exposed ground layers from the time of the bombing and passed through the hypocenter on our way to Peace Park. In Peace Park, I also explained about the Fountain of Peace and the monuments donated by various countries.

As we were leaving Peace Park, the guests said they had gotten sunburned and wanted to buy some lotion at a drugstore, so I decided to guide them to a drugstore inside the Hamanomachi arcade, which is also close to the Matsugae International Cruise Terminal. After traveling by streetcar and finishing their shopping at the drugstore, we moved to Ourakaigandori streetcar stop, the closest to the terminal, and from there I guided them to a nearby cat-themed teahouse where they purchased souvenirs. After shopping, we walked to the Matsugae International Cruise Terminal, and the tour came to an end.

This time it was a family group, and I believe the guests were able to enjoy the tour without becoming bored and were satisfied with it.

Hello, my name is Junichi Matsumoto.
I will be your guide on this occasion. With warm hospitality, I will do my best to help you fully enjoy and appreciate the charm of Japan.

Before becoming a guide, I worked for the Kumamoto Prefectural Government and retired in March 2023. From 2003 to 2005, I was stationed in Montana, USA, which has a sister-state relationship with Kumamoto. During that time, I actively interacted with the local community together with my family, which gave me valuable cross-cultural experiences.

I am an easygoing person who quickly builds a friendly relationship with international guests. With a sincere smile and attentive care, I always strive to provide tours that are warm, enjoyable, and memorable. It would be my great pleasure to help you make unforgettable memories during your stay in Japan.
