What's a Private Himeji Castle Tour Like on a Rainy Day? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. We met at Himeji Station and toured Castle View, Himeji Castle, and after a short break at the Otemon Chaya, we visited Kokoen Garden before returning to Himeji Station, where the tour concluded.
It rained all day today. It was fortunate that the guests had brought umbrellas. At Himeji Castle, we encountered a large group of high school students. Because of this, the top floor of the main keep was quite crowded. After Himeji Castle, we took a short break at a café near Kokoen Garden. The guests were very fond of the almond toast with ice cream they had there.
Although the weather was not good today, I believe the tour turned out to be a good experience overall.

Our delightful guide, Norio, was knowledgeable and a master at train negotiation! A highlight of the tour was the Herb Garden and Ropeway visit. The Sake Brewery and Museum was interesting with fabulous explanation from Norio combined with outstanding exhibits and tastings! He then left us to wander at our leisure in Chinatown.

We learnt lots about Himeji castle and it was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see all the Koi fish. Norio made sure to take us to the best places and even took us to a great local sake place we asked for 🙂
