Title: What Is a Private Kumano Kodo Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report from Wakayama
Body: After arriving at the hotel and taking in the beautiful ocean scenery while waiting, the guest came down, and after exchanging greetings, we set off. This time the guest had flown from Tokyo to Shirahama, rented a car there, and had visited Kushimoto the day before. The guest drove regularly and was skilled behind the wheel. We picked up a boxed lunch in Kamitonda and headed to Hongu. At Hongu we transferred to a bus to Hiraiwaguchi. Here I gave a brief explanation of the Kumano Kodo and we started the walk. The weather gradually improved that day, and it was almost hot in the sunny spots. The guest seemed to walk around town often but was not very used to mountain walking. At Hongu Taisha, the guest offered prayers and received a goshuin stamp. We took photos at Oyunohara and ate our boxed lunch on a bench at the World Heritage Center. We headed toward Nachi while talking about the river boats of the Kumano River. We took photos at Daimonzaka and then drove up to the parking lot of Seiganto-ji Temple. The guest had become a Buddhist four years earlier and listened attentively to the history of the temple and the story of the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage. We offered prayers at Nachi Taisha, and I talked about the three Kumano shrines, Emperor Jimmu, and the Yatagarasu crow, before heading to the three-story pagoda. The guest seemed to love the view here and took many photos. At Nachi Falls, the water volume had increased due to the previous day's rain, and the guest took photos with great emotion. On the way back to Shirahama, we stopped at Hashigui for a restroom break, and the guest took many photos here as well. Because of the long distance, the guest drove slowly and safely. We arrived at the hotel a little later than scheduled, exchanged greetings, and ended the tour.

A great and manageable hike with Kiyoko!
This is a perfect 5 mile-hike for those who only can spend one day on the Kumano Kodo. Our guide was Kiyoko, and we chose to walk from Hosshinmon Oji to Hongu Taisha. Kiyoko was friendly and knowledgeable, and provided many explanations about the history of places we walked through and of the Oji shrines and monuments we passed on the way. The forest is magnificent. She made this hiking trip truly special with her kindness and her experience. Thank you Kiyoko!

The best way to experience the Kumano Kudo in one day
I booked a private tour of the Kumano Kudo trail due to having a short time (1 full day), wanting to avoid coordinating local bus schedules, and wanting to learn from a local person who also speaks English. Kiyoko was absolutely invaluable! She was organized, flexible, knowledgeable, and kind. She coordinated all of the transportation and points of interest while continually lending us a locals perspective and knowledge of these beautiful, historic places. 100% worth the money and I think truly the best way to experience the Kumano Kudo trail if you have a short time.

Kiyoko was amazing. We are very greatful for everything she did and prepared for us. She got in touch well in advance to make sure she could design an itinerary that was suited to our needs and desires, and boy! She did an outstanding job! We saw and experienced everything we wanted.
