What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Arashiyama and Kinkaku-ji
Today I guided a group visiting from Oceania on a private tour of Kyoto. The guests were on a long journey covering Tokyo, Hakone, Kanazawa, Takayama, Kyoto, Okayama, and Osaka. We first visited the Tenryu-ji Temple garden and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Perhaps because it was early in the morning, it was not very crowded, which was wonderful. The green of the bamboo grove after the rain was very beautiful. After that, the guests looked at some souvenirs, and then we went to Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion). Here too, we were able to visit at a time when there were fewer people, so we could enjoy it at a relaxed pace, which was great. Since the guests wanted soba for lunch, I took them to a nearby soba restaurant, explained the route back, and we parted ways. I believe they enjoyed themselves.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
