What Can You See on a 4-Hour Private Yokohama Tour from the Cruise Terminal? A Licensed Guide's Report
I guided a lively group visiting from North America on a private tour of Yokohama. It was a 4-hour tour scheduled between the ship's morning arrival at Osanbashi Pier and its afternoon departure from the same pier. At the meeting point, the guests were not sure what time they needed to return to the ship, so we checked and confirmed that they had to be back by 2:00. Since taking a bus to Sankeien Garden would have left time for only about one other stop, I suggested using a taxi, and they agreed. Although it was a windy and chilly day, the clear skies made the flowers and greenery of Sankeien Garden very beautiful, which the guests greatly enjoyed. One of the guests was an artist, so many photos were taken. The Old Yanohara House was still under repair, so it was not possible to go inside or even see its exterior. Because I had heard beforehand that they wanted to see works by local artists, I took them to a gallery in Motomachi that I had found during my advance scouting; they did not make a purchase, but they were very pleased. Afterward, we passed through Chinatown and went to Yamashita Park, where a horticultural exhibition happened to be taking place, and again many photos were taken. The guests liked the handmade glass earrings I was wearing, so I took them to a shop at the Red Brick Warehouse, where a birthday gift was purchased as a present. Blessed with fine weather, the guests said they were very satisfied, and I believe it turned out to be a wonderful tour.

Great day in Toyko
Four of us spent an enjoyable day touring Tokyo the day before our Japan cruise. Our guide, Takako, was great and ensured we saw what we wanted to see. Tokyo traffic is crazy but our driver, Mr. Isizuka, was amazing. Takako asked for our lunch preference and suggested a terrific steak house…so fun! She explained all the traditions and rituals at the shrine and temple so we felt at ease visiting these places. Because of traffic, we were running a little behind (no fault of hers or our driver) so we only got a drive through of the Ginza area. We will spend one more day in Tokyo at the end of the cruise and now have a better idea of where to concentrate our time. All in all, we had a great time, despite the rain.

Takako, our guide for the day, was an absolutely wonderful companion in Tokyo. She took the time in advance to understand our interests and wishes, and the whole day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience.
My mother isn’t very steady on her feet and can’t walk long distances, and Takako handled this beautifully, she adjusted the pace and made sure my mother could fully enjoy the day without feeling rushed or left out. It’s reassuring to know that a tour like this can be adapted so well for someone with limited mobility.
Her knowledge, warmth and preparation made the day truly special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and can highly recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo.
