From there the group visited Kinkaku-ji Temple at 10:10, Ryoan-ji Rock Garden at 11:20, Arashiyama, Bamboo Grove, Kimono Forest at 13:30, Gion (from the car window) at 14:20, Sanjusangendo Temple at 14:20 and port at 15:30.

The guests were visiting Japan for the first time and arrived by cruise ship. They requested the Arashiyama bamboo grove and asked me to plan an itinerary that included it, so I designed the tour to incorporate as many highlights as possible. The spring crowds had not yet built up, so we were able to see everything smoothly. The guests took a great many photographs. Around after lunch it began to rain and the temperature dropped, so I explained the Gion district from the car window. They were delighted to have been able to see so many things.

Our guide Chiyuki was the best part of the trip. Super earnest, so generous with her knowledge of the history and culture. The tour had a lot to cover, from the sake making area to the Kobe Herb Garden Ropeway on the opposite side of the city, all in one afternoon. Miles to cover but never once did we feel rushed. We had lovely conversations along the way and tons of pictures to take home. Last but not least, when we requested for her recommendations of Kobe beef places, she pointed us to a top notch Kobe Beef Teppanyaki option – while prudently ensuring it was a value for money experience. You are the best Chiyuki – grateful for your hospitality and gracious hosting.

After getting off to a rocky start our guide was wonderful! She took us to the Herb Gardens
which was fabulous and the for a Kibe beef lunch, then toured Chinatown and did some
