What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari
Today I guided a group visiting from Europe. It was their first time in Japan, and they were traveling around Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. It was a slightly chilly day, but I think it was perfect weather for sightseeing. We went to Nijo Castle in the morning, and I was surprised by how many people were lined up there. I took them to the Gion district, but since they had already passed through part of it when they visited Kiyomizu-dera Temple a few days earlier, we kept our time in Gion short and I suggested visiting Sanjusangendo instead, where I took them next. After that we went to Fushimi Inari Taisha, and I was glad it was not too crowded. As the scheduled end time of the tour was approaching and they seemed to want to explore at a more leisurely pace, we parted ways partway through. I believe they enjoyed the tour.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
