Over the course of the day the route took in Kinkaku-ji Temple at 11:40, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine + Plum Garden at 13:35 and Gion at 14:25.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Kyoto to Kitaoji by subway (260JPY); Kitaoji Bus Terminal (Subway Kitaoji Station) by bus (230JPY). Across 2 sections the fare came to 490JPY per person.

The guests were a group visiting from Europe. They were courteous and had a great sense of humor, and while riding the train I gave a brief overview of Japanese history. They showed interest in imperial succession and asked several questions. We discussed differences between the British monarchy and the Japanese Imperial Household, including whether Japan had ever had a female emperor and whether one might emerge in the future. Over a meal, a question also came up about how many days of paid leave workers in Japan receive, so I looked it up online and answered. There was no end to conversations about the rock band Queen and ABBA concerts. In Gion, I explained the differences between teahouses and okiya, and between maiko and geiko. With so many tourists wearing kimono, they asked how to tell whether someone was a local or a tourist. The tour ended in Gion and we said our goodbyes, but I happened to run into them again on the way back and introduced them to Nishiki Market. I do not think we could have reached the plum garden at Kitano Tenmangu by bus alone. I had explained the taxi fare of under 10,000 yen in total beforehand and received their consent.

Harumi was a fantastic guide – very friendly and very knowledgeable. Even weeks before the tour, her communication was outstanding, asking me what we would be interested in seeing, ages and interests of the members in our party, and laying out a thoughtful and perfect itinerary for our day. Her knowledge made our visit to Himeji Castle way more interesting and engaging than if we had just gone by ourselves. We would definitely book again!

Amazing guided experience
Harumi is an amazing guide. Knows everything about the sites she takes you to. She is excellent with kids and even brought them oregami and treats. The heat was a bit oppressive and we were so glad we paid for the driver with a large and clean air conditioned van. Harumi, the guide, was a true professional. She devised a very good itinerary and was also flexible when the kids were hungry, etc. Would highly recommend.
