What Is a Private Day Trip from Tokyo to Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
[Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private day trip to Kyoto for guests visiting Japan, departing from and returning to Tokyo. The guests were visiting Japan for the first time. The tour covered Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Gion area, Kiyomizu-dera, and Nishiki Market. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, the guests were amazed by the beauty of the thousands of torii gates as well as the crowds. In the Gion area, they listened with great interest to stories about geiko and maiko. As some fatigue set in around Kiyomizu-dera, we did not enter the main hall and instead headed to Nishiki Market. On the way, one of the guests left a phone behind in the taxi, but I immediately called the driver, who turned back and returned it, so all was well. Finally, I saw the guests off at Kyoto Station.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.
