- 8:30 Hotel Meet (@Hotel Gracy Kyoto Sanjo)
- 8:30-9:10 Travel (Keihan Railway; Keihan Sanjo → Fushimi Inari)
- 9:10-10:30 Visit Kiyomizu-dera (including Yasaka Pagoda and Koshin-do)
- 10:30-10:50 Travel (City Bus; Kiyomizu-michi → Higashiyama Shichijo)
- 10:50:11:40 Visit Sanjusangen-do
- 11:50-12:40 Lunch (@Sato, near Sanjusangen-do)
- 12:40-13:00 Travel (Keihan Railway: Keihan Shichijo → Fushimi Inari Taisha)
- 13:00-13:50 Visit Fushimi Inari Taisha
- 13:50-14:20 Travel (Keihan Railway; Fushimi Inari → Keihan Sanjo
- 14:20-14:30 Travel (on foot; Keihan Sanjo → Hotel)
- 14:30 After arriving at the hotel, the tour ended and we parted ways with the guests.
What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari
The guests were a group visiting from Oceania. It was their first time in Japan and in Kyoto. They were traveling during a holiday break. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari Taisha. The weather was not as cold as the previous day, making it comfortable for the tour. Kiyomizu-dera and Sanjusangendo were also less crowded than expected, so we were able to proceed smoothly. At Fushimi Inari, the area around the main hall was so packed that it felt like the first three days of the New Year, but fortunately it was not as crowded near the torii gates, which was a relief. Some of the guests said they especially enjoyed Fushimi Inari and Sanjusangendo, while others found Fushimi Inari the highlight. There were questions about the meaning of the New Year's Eve bell ringing (108 times), as well as about kadomatsu and gegyo.

Our Kyoto guided tour (Aioi Michiharu) was a great way to see some of the city’s most famous sights. The itinerary was well organized, starting with a convenient hotel pickup before visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha. Walking through the thousands of red torii gates was a memorable experience, and our guide shared interesting background about the shrine that added helpful context.
We then explored the Kiyomizu area, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Pagoda, and Yasaka Koshindo Temple. The route offered a nice mix of historic landmarks, traditional streets, and scenic viewpoints. There was enough time at each stop to take photos and enjoy the surroundings without feeling rushed.
What really made this tour special was our guide’s knowledge, friendliness, and enthusiasm. He provided interesting cultural insights, recommended local foods and hidden photo spots, and made sure everyone in the group was comfortable throughout the day.

Michi our guide was excellent! Great communication before the tour and laid out an entire day for us. Was very accommodating and understood when the heat got to us and needed to take a break. He was very knowledgeable and gave us great pieces of information about the beautiful city of Kyoto. Would highly recommend the tour and Michi!!

Michi was an excellent tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites we visited, was able to answer all of core questions, and knew where to find cold water when we were all thirsty! We really enjoyed our whole 4 hour tour.
