What Is a Private Kyoto Tour of Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were visitors from North America, and it was their first time in Japan. I took them to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari Shrine. The tour was originally scheduled to start at 11:30, but to avoid the crowds as much as possible, we moved the start time three hours earlier and began at 8:30. At Kiyomizu-dera, we were able to visit before it became too crowded. The weather was not too cold, and the clear skies made for a pleasant tour. I walked as slowly as possible and paid careful attention throughout. Since one of the guests was not very comfortable with English, I made sure to include some Spanish in my explanations. The guests especially enjoyed Sanjusangendo. After visiting Fushimi Inari, they mentioned they wanted to buy some souvenirs, so I introduced them to a shop selling Uji tea and Japanese sake, where they purchased matcha and sake. They seemed very satisfied to be able to buy souvenirs that felt distinctly of Kyoto. I was glad they made the trip all the way from Osaka.
