- 10:27-10:40 Museum → Kiyomizu-michi Bus 230 yen
- 10:50-12:15 Yasaka Pagoda, stroll along Sannei-zaka, sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera
- 12:30-14:00 Lunch @ Ishibei-koji Mamecha
- 14:10-14:30 Yasaka Shrine, stroll around Gion area
- 14:44-14:49 Gion-Shijo → Shichijo Keihan 180 yen
- 15:00 Disperse @ Seikoro
Title: What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Walking Tour of Higashiyama and Gion Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. At Sanjusangendo, they were overwhelmed by the 1,001 statues of the Thousand-Armed Kannon and asked questions such as "Why was something like this created?", so I explained the concept of Mappo (the age of Dharma decline). After that, we strolled through the Higashiyama area, including Kiyomizu-dera, Sannenzaka, and the Yasaka Pagoda. For lunch, we went to a restaurant along Ishibei-koji. They arranged a children's menu, which was well received. After lunch, I guided the group through Yasaka Shrine and the Gion area. When I talked about the differences between Buddhism and Shinto and how they have coexisted, the guests listened with great interest.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.

Andy Murao was an amazing and wonderful tour guide. He reached out to us with some ideas for our private tour. He worked with us as we made the tour perfectly suited to our needs. He met us on time. He navigated the crowds and the sites perfectly. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He even put together a nice photo collection of photos he emailed us after. Highly recommend.
