Over the course of the day the route took in Nijo Castle at 11:00, Gion Hanamikoji – Gion Kaikan at 12:30 and Yasaka Shrine – Yasaka Pagoda – Ninenzaka at 13:30.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Kyoto City Hall (Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae) to Nijojo-mae by subway (220JPY). Across 1 sections the fare came to 220JPY per person.
What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were making their first trip to Japan, visiting from North America. They had traveled through Tokyo and Hakone before arriving in Kyoto two days earlier. The evening before, they had joined a nighttime tour of Fushimi Inari, but the rain made the footing poor and it turned out to be more demanding than expected, so they left partway through. Today, as they seemed a little tired, we adjusted the plan and strolled at a relaxed pace with breaks, visiting Nijo Castle, Gion's Hanamikoji Street, Gion Kaikan, Yasaka Shrine, the Yasaka Pagoda, and Ninenzaka. At Nijo Castle, we had an engaging discussion about the origins of the Tokugawa shoguns, as well as the wall paintings and architecture. They took many photos of the buildings and gardens. At Yasaka Shrine, they were delighted to buy a kimono from a street vendor.

We had a wonderful tour around Osaka. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting information about the places we visited. He was also very friendly and approachable, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The length of the tour was just right for us—especially on such a hot day—and we still managed to find time to take some great photos.
