Tour Itinerary in Detail
The tour started at 09:30 at 宮島のフェリーターミナルで集合 and ended at 13:30. The day ran to 4 hours from start to finish.
Over the course of the day the route took in 大鳥居を見学 at 09:45, 大聖院を見学 at 10:30, カフェタイム at 11:30, 豊国神社を見学 at 12:00 and 厳島神社を見学 at 13:00.
What Is a 4-Hour Private Miyajima Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were a group visiting Japan from North America. They requested a full four-hour guided tour of Miyajima, so we arranged to meet at the ferry terminal.
Since it was low tide in the morning, we first walked out to the Great Torii Gate, where the guests took many photos with the torii.
They were very impressed with Daishoin Temple and told me that everyone should come to this temple. They purchased many omamori charms as souvenirs.
Everyone loved taking photos, and at Itsukushima Shrine as well they each took a great many pictures.
All of the guests enjoyed oysters, so I ended the tour by taking them to an oyster restaurant.
Since they planned to take the ropeway up Mount Misen after the tour, I shared information about the ropeway, which they greatly appreciated. At the end we said goodbye with handshakes and hugs.

After 6 years in Tokyo, I came back to Hiroshima because I really love my hometown and wanted to spend the rest of my life here.

Hiroshima is absolutely full of beautiful and historically important places and also the great food.

This was fantastic. Mari was a phenomenal guide. She has a personal family connection to the atomic bombing and she’s lived in Hiroshima all her life. She was knowledgable; funny, and respectful of my goals (sites, time spent, photo taking). And lunch was great afterwards!

The highlight of our trip!
Mari was an excellent guide and really was the highlight of our 17 day Japan trip. She had great information about Hiroshima, the history and culture. I had selected a start time for the tour but she reached out to recommend a slightly earlier start so we could hit the tide schedule just right for Miyajima Island, which I really appreciated. She also had recommendations for stuff to see and foods to eat. As we took a short break from all the walking, she told us the story of Sadako and the paper cranes, then showed us how to fold our own paper crane and had a bag we could put it in to take it home. It made for a wonderful souvenir. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour, especially if you are lucky enough to get Mari as your guide!
