What Is a Private Nara Walking Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today I guided a visitor from North America. They had already traveled through Tokyo, Okinawa, and Kyoto before coming to Nara. Their trip included a visit to relatives living in Okinawa. Since they wished to walk at a relaxed pace with plenty of rest, we took the tour slowly and comfortably. They were amazed by the primeval forest of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and of course surprised by the many deer roaming freely. They seemed very intrigued by the Nio guardian statues at the Great South Gate of Todaiji Temple and by the interior of the Great Buddha Hall, taking many photographs. I believe they also greatly enjoyed the beautiful garden of Yoshikien Garden.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
