What Is a Private Kyoto Walking Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today I guided a group visiting from Europe. They had already visited Osaka, the Expo, and Nara. We first went to Nijo Castle, and perhaps due to the intense heat of recent days, there were few people, so we were able to view it in a relaxed way, which was nice. They were especially interested in the Japanese garden. They were also very pleased with lunch at a soba restaurant in the Pontocho area. After that, we strolled from Gion to Sannenzaka. At a teahouse on Sannenzaka, they enjoyed shaved ice. We also looked at Kyoto-ware ceramics at a shop, and they purchased small plates. Because of the intense heat, we took things at a slow pace, but I believe they enjoyed it.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
