What Can You See on a Private Tokyo Tour with a Tea Ceremony Experience? A Licensed Guide's Report

[Japan Guide Agency (JGA Inc.)](https://www.j-g-a.org/) guide led a private one-day tour of Tokyo for a guest visiting from North America, including a tea ceremony experience and visits to major sightseeing spots. Contact with the guest was established two days before the tour, with a request for a tea ceremony experience and visits to the main attractions. The tea ceremony reservation was confirmed and the details were sent to the guest in advance. At the meeting point, we reviewed the itinerary and began the tour.

The guest exercises regularly, including walking, kickboxing, and weightlifting, and gave a very healthy impression. Their studies had focused on the history of Europe and the Middle East, and they frequently travel to visit historical sites and scenic spots around the world. The tour covered Meiji Shrine, Tsukiji (where we had lunch at counter seats with the guide alongside, enjoying a pleasant atmosphere with friendly chatter from the chef), and the East Gardens, with many questions along the way.

From the following week, the guest planned to travel by cruise ship to Kyoto, Osaka, Kochi, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and Jeju Island in Korea. During our travels, I recommended local gourmet foods in each area and a one-day tour of Nara as much as I could. We arrived at the tea ceremony venue about 10 minutes late, but the tea instructor enthusiastically taught the teachings and etiquette of the tea ceremony, and the guest relaxed and enjoyed it thoroughly, though we ran about 20 minutes over the scheduled end time.

The guest was scheduled to join an izakaya tour in West Shinjuku that evening. To make it in time for the 5:40 PM meeting, I guided them through selected highlights of Asakusa, then led them to a taxi stand, told the driver the name and exact address of the izakaya tour meeting point, and we parted with smiles.
