The itinerary covered Hyatt Regency Kyoto at 8:00, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove at 9:00, Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple at 9:40, Sagano Walk at 10:00, Ryoan-ji Temple at 10:50, Nijo Castle at 12:30 and Guide to Sanjusangendo, then disband at 13:35.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Higashiyama Shichijo／Kyoto City Bus to Kyoto Station／Kyoto City Bus by bus (230JPY); Kyoto to Saga-Arashiyama by train (240JPY); Kitaoji to Nijojo-mae by subway (260JPY); Nijojo-mae to Sanjo Keihan by subway (220JPY); Sanjo Keihan to Shichijo by train (170JPY). Across 5 sections the fare came to 1,120JPY per person.
Title: What's a Private One-Day Nature and Off-the-Beaten-Path Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
The guests were visitors from North America. For the itinerary, they had shared keywords such as "nature" and "off the beaten path" in advance, so I planned the following route: Hotel → the Bamboo Grove path in Arashiyama → Otagi Nenbutsu-ji and a walk through Sagano (with some shopping at a local shop along the way) → Ryoan-ji → lunch (at a shopping mall food court in the Kitaoji area) → Nijo Castle → Sanjusangen-do, ending the tour after the visit. It was hot and humid, with the temperature rising to 35 degrees, so I kept an eye on their well-being, but in Sagano they walked a long distance, enjoyed the rustic scenery, and took photos here and there. As they wished to have a quick lunch, I guided them to a food court in the station building at Kitaoji Station on the subway, where they enjoyed a curry from a well-known Tokyo-based curry shop. During our travels they asked a variety of questions, such as about Japan's medical insurance system, Japanese views on religion, Japanese-made English words, Japan's baseball culture, the lives of Buddhist monks, the existence of the Imperial Family and the Emperor, the causes of Japan's economic stagnation, and the background of the declining birthrate. The tour was booked by one of the guests this time, but I had a feeling that they may become a repeat visitor to Japan in the future.

Masaki was our guide through Kyoto the day after we arrived. It was a wonderful experience, learning both about the culture and the hidden gems. He shared the details of each temple that he took us to, as well as took us through streets that showed the different styles of the Japanese culture the best part was that he was very communicative prior to and after our tour. He was so on top of everything that he made reservations at a specific restaurant during our tour, based on our interests, so that we do not waste time. It was an area that we would not be able to find on our own, obviously. He also changed some of the areas we were going to tour, based on our sons interest. That was actually the best part for our son, as he was able to experience archery.
The best part is that Masaki is so kind and considerate that there was a typhoon coming through Tokyo during our stay. He knew we were going to be traveling there after Kyoto and he made sure to update us with the train schedules and the storm details. We could not have asked for a better guide through Kyoto. I wish we could utilize his expertise in Tokyo…

Absolutely perfect for getting the most out of a single day in Kyoto. Masaki-san is an excellent tour guide. He communicated well by WhatsApp to set up our plans so we could see everything we wanted. He kindly adjusted our start time after our travel plans were delayed. He figured out the best way to adjust our tour when we spent too long admiring a few places! And he took us to the most amazing local type place for lunch. Overall it was beyond our expectations and we truly are grateful and thankful to Masaki-San for our truly perfect day!

Masaki was s wonderful and patient guide for our first visit to Kyoto. He explained the significance of the castle and temples we visited, pointing out parts he felt were most interesting. He also went out of his way to help us figure out our bullet train tickets for our return.
