What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like for Families Visiting Japan? A Licensed Guide's Report

The guests were a group visiting Japan from Europe. Long ago, one of the guests had taught English for five years at a university in Fukui Prefecture. At that time, the guests had connections to living and working in Tokyo, which had become a significant turning point in their lives, and bringing their group to Japan had been a long-held dream. Now that the timing was right, they were delighted that it had finally become a reality. We talked about the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which had occurred around that period; apparently Fukui Prefecture also shook considerably at the time. The effects of the previous day's rain lingered, so the morning was cloudy, but the occasional sunshine was quite strong. One of the guests had developed an interest in Buddhism through a philosophy class at school and knew a little about Zen. At Kinkaku-ji, a group tour guide spoke for a long time in front of a photo of the interior of the golden pavilion, so other visitors, including us, were kept waiting for a while. I was born and grew up in Kyoto and now live near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. I used to be a schoolteacher of English and welcome a lot of students from foreign countries.
