The itinerary covered Knot Tokyo Shinjuku at 9:00, Tsukiji Outer Market, fish market, Namiyoke Shrine at 9:40, Hamarikyu, Nakajima Tea House at 10:50, Shimbashi Station ticket machine at 11:50, Senso-ji Temple and others at 13:20, Nezu Shrine at 14:20, Meiji Shrine at 15:30 and Cosme at 16:10.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Tochomae to Tsukiji Market by subway (280JPY); Shimbashi to Asakusa by subway (220JPY); Asakusa to Ueno-hirokoji by subway (180JPY); Ueno-hirokoji／Toei Bus to Nezu Shrine Entrance／Toei Bus by bus (210JPY); Nezu to Meiji-jingumae by subway (210JPY). Across 5 sections the fare came to 1,100JPY per person.
What Is an 8-Hour Private Tokyo Tour Like in Summer? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, Asakusa, and Meiji Shrine
I guided a group visiting from Europe on an 8-hour private tour of Tokyo. I was concerned about the extreme summer heat, but we managed well: at Tsukiji we entered the fish market area, at Hamarikyu Gardens we walked through the shade and cooled off at the teahouse on the island (Nakajima), we had lunch in Asakusa, chose shaded paths and arcades as we went, cooled down on the subway during transfers, and found Meiji Shrine to have plenty of shade, so the guests stayed in good spirits until the end. We bought water three times along the way. It was a lovely group with wide-ranging interests. At Tsukiji they enjoyed yakitori and tuna at a shop I recommended. We bought Shinkansen tickets to Kyoto together at a ticket machine at Shimbashi Station. For lunch they happily enjoyed a chicken tender rice bowl and a chilled gomoku udon. They purchased makeup brushes and cooking brushes at Kanaya Brush, and lots of cosmetics at a cosmetics store in Harajuku. They seemed especially impressed by Nezu Shrine and its thousand torii gates.

Great day in Toyko
Four of us spent an enjoyable day touring Tokyo the day before our Japan cruise. Our guide, Takako, was great and ensured we saw what we wanted to see. Tokyo traffic is crazy but our driver, Mr. Isizuka, was amazing. Takako asked for our lunch preference and suggested a terrific steak house…so fun! She explained all the traditions and rituals at the shrine and temple so we felt at ease visiting these places. Because of traffic, we were running a little behind (no fault of hers or our driver) so we only got a drive through of the Ginza area. We will spend one more day in Tokyo at the end of the cruise and now have a better idea of where to concentrate our time. All in all, we had a great time, despite the rain.

Takako, our guide for the day, was an absolutely wonderful companion in Tokyo. She took the time in advance to understand our interests and wishes, and the whole day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience.
My mother isn’t very steady on her feet and can’t walk long distances, and Takako handled this beautifully, she adjusted the pace and made sure my mother could fully enjoy the day without feeling rushed or left out. It’s reassuring to know that a tour like this can be adapted so well for someone with limited mobility.
Her knowledge, warmth and preparation made the day truly special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and can highly recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo.
