What's a Full-Day Private Tour of Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Tsukiji, the Imperial Palace, Meiji Shrine, and Shibuya
The guests were visitors from North America, making their first trip to Japan. They were using an extended holiday that could only be taken during this season. Many people around them had traveled to Japan and had very positive impressions, which inspired them to visit.
They planned to stay in Tokyo for a week, so the goal of today was to visit the main areas and get a sense of what to do in the following days. We started at the Tsukiji Outer Market. Both love seafood, so they were looking forward to returning in the coming days. They were amazed by the taste of the tuna they sampled at the market.
After explaining the differences between Buddhism and Shinto and the influence each has had on Japanese culture at Namiyoke Shrine and Higashi Honganji, we headed to the Imperial Palace, where I also explained the relationship between Japan's imperial family and Shinto. They had never known anything about Shinto before and said they wanted to study it more on their own.
After Shinjuku Golden Gai, we headed to Meiji Shrine, where they experienced Shinto once again. Our final stop was the Shibuya Crossing, and they said they would like to come back to Shibuya another day as well. Finally, I accompanied them to JR Meguro Station to explain their route back to the hotel, and we ended the tour there. It was a tour in extreme heat, and since they were not used to walking much, they seemed quite tired after the 6-hour tour, but we completed it safely.

Highly recommend this tour for first time visit to Tokyo. Our guide Atsushi took great care to acclimate us with navigating through busy train stations efficiently with a group of eight family members. Along the way and at each site he explained various cultural practices and associated histories that made the tour very immersive and enjoyable. Atsushi-san was an incredibly well-researched and friendly tour guide. His knowledge allowed us to explore and get to the historical significance of the various locations we visited. His explanations were simple but comprehensive. The six hours flew by and included some off-the-beaten opportunities including coffee at a very austere but memorable location near the fish market. I would highly recommend him as well as this tour for anyone with limited time in Tokyo wanting see as much as possible

Our guide, Atsushi, was great! He met us at our hotel in Hakone and took us clockwise to tour all the sites. He was informative and taught us a lot. Our group was two adults and a 14 year old. We saw Mt Fuji from the rope way, but unfortunately the pirate ship was canceled because of high wind. We would absolutely use Atsushi again for this tour, or any other tour he provides.
