Tour Itinerary in Detail

This private tour of Hiroshima began at 9:50, when the guide met the guests at Ujina Wharf, take the shuttle bus to Ujina Port, and finished at 17:40. The day ran to 7 hours and 50 minutes from start to finish.

From there the group visited Ujina Port at 10:10, Take the high-speed boat to Miyajima at 10:25, Miyajima at 10:55, Miyajimaguchi at 13:50, Take JR to Nishi-Hiroshima Station at 14:20, Nishi-Hiroshima Station at 14:38, Take the bus to the museum at 14:42 and museum at 14:55.

Travel between the sites was by public transport: Miyajimaguchi to Nishi-Hiroshima by train (330JPY); Nishi-Hiroshima to Peace Memorial Park by bus (240JPY). Across 2 sections the fare came to 570JPY per person.

I guided a group visiting from North America.

The guests wished to travel from Ujina Port to Miyajima by high-speed boat, but there was some concern about whether we would make it in time for departure. In the end, we managed to board just in time.

At Miyajima it happened to be low tide, so the guests were able to walk all the way out to the Great Torii Gate, and they appeared very satisfied. Afterwards, along the main approach, they requested about 30 minutes of free time, and enjoyed strolling and browsing the souvenir shops. In the end the free time extended to an hour, but they seemed very pleased.

I had hoped to have them try okonomiyaki, but every restaurant was full, so they purchased light snacks at a convenience store.

At the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, I explained the "Doomsday Clock," describing how the clock is designed to symbolically self-destruct should the crisis advance further. I also introduced Einstein's famous words: "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." The guests appeared deeply moved by these words.

Finally, at the guests' request, in order to allow ample time before departure, we ended the tour 20 minutes earlier than planned and returned to Ujina Port by taxi.
