What Is a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like in the Rain? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today I guided a group visiting from North America. They were spending their trip traveling to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and other destinations.
By the time we arrived in Arashiyama, it was pouring rain and impossible to walk around comfortably, so we first viewed the garden from inside Tenryu-ji Temple. After that, the rain let up, so we strolled through the bamboo grove from the garden. Thanks to the rain there were few people, and the green of the bamboo grove was very beautiful. At the next stop, Kinkaku-ji, there was only occasional light rain, and with few visitors we were able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. The guests really enjoyed the tonkatsu at Katsukura for lunch and also had dessert. We took a short walk around the Gion Tatsumi Bridge area, drove through Hanamikoji Street, and went to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. The rain had stopped and there were more people, but I believe the guests enjoyed it.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April! She reached out well before our trip to get to know our interests and carefully planned an itinerary that was perfectly tailored to us—even helping us choose the perfect lunch spot.
