A Private Nara Day Tour Report from a Japan Guide Agency Licensed Guide: What Can You See in One Day?
I guided a group from North America around Nara. The weather was rainy, but the group had a cheerful spirit, and we were able to enjoy the tour together. Since the guests wanted to interact with the deer and feed them deer crackers, I changed the plan and started with Nara Park and Todaiji Temple first. For lunch, we went to Comfy in Naramachi, a place I have been relying on recently. The staff kindly accommodated the request that some of the guests do not eat meat, and the meal was very well received as delicious. After lunch, we visited the Treasure Hall and the Central Golden Hall of Kofukuji Temple. The statues of the Twelve Heavenly Generals in the Treasure Hall reportedly share some elements in common with certain aspects of Indian religious tradition, so I myself was able to learn a great deal about the connection between Buddhism and other religious traditions.

Andy(Atsushi) was great and communicated with us beforehand about our itinerary. He was flexible with changes we requested. Andy was very informative during the tour. He also was willing to take our family’s pictures. We were able to stop and check out shops as we pleased along the way. He also accommodated lunch requests(as our daughter has food allergies).
One thing I wish we realized was that there is quite a bit of walking. We were fine but for people who are perhaps older or with young children you may want to consider taking a cab between different sites.

Andy Murao was an amazing and wonderful tour guide. He reached out to us with some ideas for our private tour. He worked with us as we made the tour perfectly suited to our needs. He met us on time. He navigated the crowds and the sites perfectly. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. He even put together a nice photo collection of photos he emailed us after. Highly recommend.
