The tour started at 7:45 at Board a meet taxi at Ujina Pier to Miyajimaguchi and ended at 16:00. The day ran to 8 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish.

What Is a Private Miyajima Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Deer, Shrines, and Local History

I guided a group visiting Japan from North America. Since there were five people including the guide, I arranged a large private taxi. The fare was reasonable, and no additional charges were incurred for waiting time, so the guests were very satisfied.

As the guests planned to visit Nara afterward, I explained about the deer. I told them that the deer of Miyajima are wild but accustomed to people, calm, and interact well with tourists, whereas the deer of Nara can be somewhat aggressive, with reported injuries caused by their antlers.

I also talked about how the deer of Miyajima suddenly disappeared during the Second World War. It is thought that they may have been eaten due to food shortages during the war. After the war, deer were brought over from Nara and raising them began again on Miyajima. Because the people of Miyajima cared for the deer like pets, they developed very friendly and gentle temperaments. Since this is in contrast to the deer of Nara, I encouraged the guests to experience the difference for themselves.

Some of the guests were very interested in the deer and enjoyed touching them and taking photographs.

The guests do not consume coffee or alcohol, so I hesitated about whether to explain the sake barrels at the shrine, but when I talked about the difference in brewing methods between sake and wine, they listened with great interest.

For lunch, the guests ate food they had purchased at a convenience store.

The tour ended a little earlier than scheduled. Since the boat departure time was 5:00 p.m. and some of the guests appeared a little tired, we wrapped up early at the guests' request.
