What Is a Private History-Focused Day Tour of Kyoto Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today I guided a group visiting from Europe. Although I sent three emails after the booking was made, I received no reply at all, so I had to decide the itinerary on the spot on the day of the tour.
The guests requested places that were historical but not famous or crowded, so I chose Nijo Castle, which tends to be relatively uncrowded around midday, and since visitors from Europe often enjoy the Philosopher's Path, I decided to go from Honen-in Temple to Ginkaku-ji. As expected, Nijo Castle was less crowded than usual, so we were able to walk around at a relaxed pace, which was wonderful. The guests mentioned they wanted to visit an antique shop near Heian Shrine, so we parted ways at a bus stop near Heian Shrine. I believe they enjoyed themselves.

We spent half a day with Kaeko Tanigawa taking us to Daitoku-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples and Nijo castle in Kyoto. She is very nice, customer-oriented and knowledgeable about Japanese culture and history.

Kaeko Tanigawa was fantastic at helping us create a tour that worked for our family with two young children. It was a very hot day, but the air conditioned van was perfect. We loved making ramen together, feeding monkeys, and seeing a few top sites of Kyoto.

Kaeko was absolutely amazing from start to finish, and my husband and I had the best time with her during our honeymoon in Kyoto in April!
