Meeting at / Kongobuji Main Gate at 9:30, the group explored Wakayama until the tour ended at 13:30. The day ran to 4 hours from start to finish.
The itinerary covered Tour Kongobuji/ Move on foot at 9:30, Tour Tokugawa Mausoleum/ Move on foot at 10:40, Tour Fudodo Ruins/ Move on foot at 11:00, Tour Danjo Garan/ Move on foot at 11:25, Tour Kongo Sanmaiin/ Move on foot at 12:35 and Tour Mani Pagoda at 13:10.
What Is a Private Guided Tour of Koyasan Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Because the guests had visited before with family and I sensed they had a deep interest in Buddhism, I prepared especially carefully. They were very approachable, which put me at ease. We first visited Kongobuji Temple, then the Tokugawa Mausoleum. After that, we stopped by a small pond just out on the street. I explained that across from it was the site where the Fudodo Hall, now located in the Danjo Garan complex, once stood, and that because it had been here it was spared from lightning strikes, making it a valuable surviving structure. We went straight south along the mountain path to reach the Danjo Garan. We viewed the interior of the Konpon Daito Pagoda, and I explained the Buddhist statues, the bodhisattva images painted on the pillars, and the portraits of distinguished figures of the Shingon sect displayed at the upper corners of the four walls. Moving on to Kongo Sanmaiin, we saw the surviving Tahoto Pagoda donated by Hojo Masako, as well as the treasure hall. Finally, we visited the Mani Pagoda, where, as a bit of entertainment, they experienced "finding Buddha in hell" in a pitch-dark basement. Their temple lodging was very nearby, and since they wished to stroll a little more, we parted ways here.

I grew up in the mountain village. I learned many things from my family, especially my grandmother. I can give you many interesting experiences in the wild nature. We eat wild strawberries or “Sukanpo ” the edible grass, fly ferns or cross a suspension bridge.
I walked all of Kumano Kodo, Koyasan pilgrimage roads and other ancient highways, total length is more than 600km ( 400 miles).
I want you to show the interesting spots beyond the guide book. Kii mountain range has old history as well as beautiful land scapes. I’ll take you the excellent places you can do Facebook bragging.
My experiences for guiding foreigners are, town of Koyasan, pilgrimage road to Koyasan, Kumano Kodo Nakahechi, hot springs, Shingu city and Nachi Katsuura town, Kushimoto area, Shirahama area so on.

Our guide, Hira, was a super nice man. We got to see so many beautiful places that we would otherwise have missed on our own. He got to the meeting location early and waited patiently for our arrival. He also arranged to make sure my husband was able to have a gluten-free lunch. He never rushed us along and waited for us to enjoy the site and to take many pictures. Although we had some communication barriers but we managed to understand each other. We loved Koyasan and had a wonderful time. We also really enjoyed meeting a local from the Wakayama prefecture.
