What Is a Private Kyoto Day Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Fushimi Inari, Nijo Castle, and Kinkaku-ji

The meeting was slightly delayed, but the tour proceeded almost exactly as scheduled. The guests were a very pleasant group visiting from North America. At Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Omokaru-ishi stones were crowded, so instead I showed them the "rising pine," where they prayed for their stock prices and salaries to rise. At Nijo Castle, they listened intently to the explanations, and perhaps because of a samurai-themed TV program, they had many questions. They asked why the Emperor has continued to exist, whether a woman could take the role, and about the structure of the roof tiles. At Kinkaku-ji, they were interested in the tea room and asked why it was so small. On the way back in the car, I introduced them to Amida-kuji (ghost-leg lottery). It became lively with a small gift.

Hello, my name is Harumi, and I am a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in Japan. I have been actively involved in volunteer activities for many years, sharing my passion for Japanese culture and history. As a kimono dressing instructor, I can provide hands-on kimono experiences and guide tours. Additionally, I have extensive knowledge of sumo wrestling, making my tours ideal for those interested in this fascinating sport. I am also well-versed in Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings (Jūdenken) and can introduce historical townscapes dating back to the Edo period. If you are interested, I would be happy to show you around the sake brewing process in the Nada region.
