Over the course of the day the route took in Best Western Yokohama at 9:00, Tsukiji Hongwanji, Outer Market, Fish Market at 10:00, Skytree at 12:00, Senso-ji Temple at 14:00, Tanaka Soba at 15:00, Meiji Shrine at 16:20 and Cosme at 17:00.
Travel between the sites was by public transport: Tsurumi to Shimbashi by train (320JPY); Shinjuku to Tsukiji 3-chome by bus (210JPY); Tsukiji Market to Oshiage by subway (320JPY); Tokyo Skytree to Asakusa by train (160JPY); Asakusa to Meiji-jingumae by subway (260JPY). Across 5 sections the fare came to 1,270JPY per person.

I guided guests visiting from South America. To get from the hotel in Tsurumi to Tsukiji, we took a bus from Shimbashi and arrived smoothly. At Tsukiji, the guests enjoyed tuna, shumai, pork buns, wagyu sirloin, salmon, and sake. The day before, I had recommended that the guests purchase Skytree tickets in advance, but they had mistakenly bought tickets for the previous day, so they had to buy them again. The guests did not mind, but I felt sorry and thought I should have advised them to check the date and time carefully. Since it was a Saturday, it was crowded and took longer than expected. In Asakusa, the guests enjoyed shaved ice, coffee, and ramen. They were delighted, saying all the food was very delicious. The guests had been asked to bring back a Korean cosmetics lip product, so after Meiji Shrine, we asked a staff member at a cosmetics store. As the exact item was not available, they purchased a currently popular fwee lip that was recommended. Apparently, purchases over ¥5,500 qualify for tax exemption. The guests were interested in history and listened attentively to my explanations. Since they wanted to do more shopping, I introduced Harajuku, and the tour came to an end.

Great day in Toyko
Four of us spent an enjoyable day touring Tokyo the day before our Japan cruise. Our guide, Takako, was great and ensured we saw what we wanted to see. Tokyo traffic is crazy but our driver, Mr. Isizuka, was amazing. Takako asked for our lunch preference and suggested a terrific steak house…so fun! She explained all the traditions and rituals at the shrine and temple so we felt at ease visiting these places. Because of traffic, we were running a little behind (no fault of hers or our driver) so we only got a drive through of the Ginza area. We will spend one more day in Tokyo at the end of the cruise and now have a better idea of where to concentrate our time. All in all, we had a great time, despite the rain.

Takako, our guide for the day, was an absolutely wonderful companion in Tokyo. She took the time in advance to understand our interests and wishes, and the whole day was tailored exactly to what we wanted to see and experience.
My mother isn’t very steady on her feet and can’t walk long distances, and Takako handled this beautifully, she adjusted the pace and made sure my mother could fully enjoy the day without feeling rushed or left out. It’s reassuring to know that a tour like this can be adapted so well for someone with limited mobility.
Her knowledge, warmth and preparation made the day truly special. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide and can highly recommend her to anyone visiting Tokyo.
