What Is a Private Half-Day Tour of Himeji Castle Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
Today's guests were a group visiting Japan for the first time from North America. We met in front of the Shinkansen transfer gate at Himeji Station, then visited Castle View and Himeji Castle, had a light meal at a tea house near Koko-en Garden, toured Koko-en Garden, returned to Himeji Station, and ended the tour on the first floor inside Himeji Station.
Since the guests enjoyed walking, at Himeji Castle we chose a relatively demanding route including the "West Bailey Hyakken Corridor" and the "Main Keep." Perhaps because the TV drama "SHOGUN" is popular in North America, the guests had a fair amount of knowledge about Japanese historical background, such as the relationship between Toyotomi Hideyori and Senhime. The tour today went smoothly overall, and the guests were satisfied.

Our delightful guide, Norio, was knowledgeable and a master at train negotiation! A highlight of the tour was the Herb Garden and Ropeway visit. The Sake Brewery and Museum was interesting with fabulous explanation from Norio combined with outstanding exhibits and tastings! He then left us to wander at our leisure in Chinatown.

We learnt lots about Himeji castle and it was very interesting. The gardens were beautiful and it was great to see all the Koi fish. Norio made sure to take us to the best places and even took us to a great local sake place we asked for 🙂
