Title: What Is a Private Guided Tour of Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

I had the pleasure of guiding a group visiting from North America. As we found we shared common interests, we quickly became comfortable with one another and enjoyed lively conversations on subjects we had in common. In particular, when I spoke about my father's wartime memories and my own feelings of having grown up as a second-generation atomic bomb survivor, the guests listened intently, looking me in the eye. As I spoke, I felt a moment of genuine connection that transcended country and culture, and it was deeply moving.

I also used a map to explain where Japan is located relative to North America, and the guests listened with great interest. When they learned that their home region lies at roughly the same latitude as Hokkaido, they seemed both surprised and to feel a sense of closeness. The guests were also very interested in Hiroshima specialties such as okonomiyaki and momiji manju, and at the end of the tour I guided them to Hiroshima Station. First, they happily selected momiji manju as souvenirs, and then they headed to an okonomiyaki restaurant.
