Tour Itinerary
- Departing from Hotel B, we walked down to Akasaka-dori while viewing the exterior of Hodo-ji Temple at Sannenzaka, and continued to Hie Shrine. At Hie Shrine, the wisteria trellis was at its best. From Hie Shrine we headed toward Nagatacho, passing between the National Diet Building and the Diet Members' Office Building, and reached the Imperial Palace from Sakuradamon. Walking further, after having lunch at an izakaya in Kanda, we purchased a Tokyo Metro 24-hour ticket at Shin-Ochanomizu Station, took the Chiyoda Line, and got off at Nishi-Nippori Station. We walked through the Yanaka shopping street via Dokan-dori, passed through Yanaka Cemetery, and saw the grave of Tokugawa Yoshinobu and others. At 13:40 we went through to Kan'ei-ji Temple, then walked through the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Park, Shinobazu Pond, and the downtown area (Ueno Nakacho), and boarded the Ginza Line at Ueno-hirokoji Station at 14:30. We transferred to the Hanzomon Line at Mitsukoshimae Station, got off at Shibuya Station, crossed the scramble intersection while looking at the Hachiko statue, and walked along Meiji-dori, Cat Street, and Omotesando. At the guest's request, we took the Chiyoda Line from Meiji-jingumae Station at 15:45 and disbanded at Akasaka Station around 16:00. We walked quite a lot while explaining things that caught our attention and answering questions.

The guests were visiting Japan for the first time from North America. They wished to experience Tokyo's nature, history, and the evolution of its culture, to walk a great deal, and to learn how to use public transportation.
While walking the route described above, we talked about many things: the history, structure, and formation of the city of Tokyo, the political systems of Japan and North America, historical topics such as the Tokugawa shogunate and the Meiji Restoration, events of the twentieth century, Tokyo's nature (plants and animals) and roadside trees, and the natural environment of North America. For the first day of a first visit to Japan, it may have been a bit too much to cover.
The guests preferred the greenery of parks over crowded places. However, since they had another appointment at 18:00 and needed to change their room at the Hotel beforehand, they wished to return early. As a result, I omitted the forest of the shrine grounds, which I thought would have suited their tastes well.
Their interest in crowded spots like the Shibuya crossing and Takeshita Street was limited to simply seeing them once, since everyone talks about them. As for Takeshita Street, they felt they had seen enough.
They mentioned they do not usually take photographs, so they took very few. However, at the pine tree of Kiyomizu Kannon-do, they said, "I've seen this in a picture, but I can't believe it actually exists!" and took a photo. To help them remember this trip in the future, I arranged to email them the photos of the guests that I had taken for my report.

My hobbies are reading books including Manga, watching films including Anime. I like to watch various sorts of sports. I like to visit museums. And I am a tea ceremony practitioner, so I am quite familiar with green tea (matcha) and Japanese sweets.

We had an excellent 6-hour walking tour around Tokyo with Maddie. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the city’s history and culture come alive with interesting stories and local insights. The tour was well-paced, organized, and tailored to our interests. We saw so much in a short time and learned things we would never have discovered on our own. Perfect intro to Japan!
We had a 4 hour private tour on our first morning in Tokyo, and it was the perfect introduction to Japan! We had been contacted by our guide Maddie before the tour, and we told her a few of the places we wanted to visit. She helped us navigate the train station and walked us through all the areas we wanted to see, as well as many other stops along the way that we wouldn’t have seen without her. Maddie was very knowledgeable and friendly, and spoke very clear English. She knew exactly which routes to take, and we would have taken at least twice as long if we tried to go to all those areas without her. She was a great guide and we wished we could have taken her along for the rest of our trip!
