Title: What's a Private One-Day Kyoto Tour Like? A Licensed Guide's Report on Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji, and Nishiki Market

We met on time at a hotel in front of Kyoto Station and discussed the day's itinerary. The guests said they would leave everything to the guide except for Arashiyama, which was planned for the next day, so I proposed Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Nishiki Market. After getting their agreement, we started sightseeing. At Nijo Castle, I explained the history from the Warring States period through the Tokugawa era before we entered. The guests listened with great interest to my explanation of the circumstances surrounding the restoration of imperial rule. After Nijo Castle, since the city buses were crowded, we used the subway and a city bus to travel to Kinkaku-ji. There, the guests took many photos, captivated by the beauty of Kinkaku-ji. I also guided them while sharing the story of Yukio Mishima's "The Burning of the Golden Pavilion," and then we walked to the next stop, Ryoan-ji, where I introduced the rock garden connected to the life philosophy of Zen Buddhism. From Ryoan-ji we took a bus to the shopping district, and since there was a request to have ramen for lunch at Nishiki Market, I had them enjoy ramen at a ramen restaurant. It was their first time eating ramen in Japan, and they were delighted, saying "delicious, delicious." After lunch, I guided them through Nishiki Market, and as the guide time came to an end near Takakura Street, we parted ways there.

After a rather long teaching experience at Japanese college, I converted my career about 6 years ago into working as a tour guide for the tourists visiting Japan.
As my career overseas, I’ve been in the UN and the Japanese Embassy, all in the USA, totaling more than 6 years.
And then I had made a big change in my career from a diplomat to an academic researcher. For that career to achieve, I studied abroad and won a doctorate degree in linguistics from Indiana University and landed a teaching position at college in Japan.
