Tour Itinerary
- 9:00 Meet at hotel (assist with issues such as difficulty downloading Mobile Suica in the lobby)
- 9:30 Start moving
- 10:00 Arrive at Tsukiji Market
- 11:00 Depart Tsukiji Market
- 11:40 Arrive at Asakusa
- 12:20 TIC ~ Nakamise ~ Nio Gate, disband once at the Nio Gate for free time
- 13:00 (a little after) Regroup at the Nio Gate, take the Ginza Line to Meiji-jingumae
- 14:00 Stroll around Meiji Shrine
- 15:00 Disband at the entrance of Meiji Shrine
What Is a Private Asakusa Walking Tour in Tokyo Like? A Licensed Guide's Report
A group originally planned for a smaller number grew to a larger group on the day of the tour. Everyone in the group knew each other, but they had a wide range of ages, varied interests, and quite different walking paces, so each person seemed to enjoy the tour freely in their own way.
Some of the guests enjoyed sampling street food, some liked filming videos on their smartphones, and some were interested in the history and explanations while others were not. In Asakusa, the group began to spread out considerably, so in front of the Niomon Gate I gave a brief explanation about the main hall and then let everyone disperse once, arranging to regroup 40 minutes later after they had enjoyed some free time. It was the first time I had let a group disperse without guiding them all the way to the main hall, but some went to see the main hall, some tried drawing omikuji fortunes, and some returned to enjoy Nakamise, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, which made me feel it was one good approach. The Niomon Gate is easy to spot from anywhere thanks to the nearby five-story pagoda, and there is also a wisteria trellis on the east side, so I felt it was a convenient place for meeting up.
At various points along the way, the group took photos together, and the atmosphere was very pleasant.

Our guide was highly knowledgeable about the historical significance of each location we visited. It was also a great opportunity to talk with her about daily life in Tokyo. My adult children especially enjoyed learning about what it is like for parents raising children in the city. A wonderful way to gain a local perspective and a deeper understanding of the area.

Awesome day with Kiyo !! Kiyo was in regular contact before our trip and went over and above….including a very last minute change due to a booking error I made. Kiyo gave clear travel instructions before our trip and even printed out a map for when we arrived at Kyoto after our tour. She was fun, friendly, and shared her knowledge- we were so pleased to have done this tour to learn about what we were seeing. Highly recommend Kiyo- thank you so much!
