What Is a Private Walking Tour of Hiroshima Like? A Licensed Guide's Report

The weather was lovely today, and at times the guests even took off their jackets.

The tour was scheduled to start at 10:00, but due to a ticket issue and incorrect platform guidance, the guests missed their planned bullet train and arrived in Hiroshima at 10:27. The guests came from Europe. In their country, the First World War and the Pacific War are studied in detail, so they wanted to deepen the knowledge they had gained from books and classes and to learn about the war from a non-Western perspective on-site, which is why they came to Hiroshima. Wanting them to also see present-day Hiroshima, I introduced the newly built station, the history of okonomiyaki available inside the station, and some okonomiyaki restaurants. It seems they went after the tour, as they sent me a message saying, "We are at the okonomiyaki restaurant in the station you introduced. It is delicious."

We also visited the streetcar platform scheduled to open at the station this summer, enjoyed the view from the rooftop, and tried a fresh juice machine. The guests shared one juice among the group and said the taste was excellent. At the Baumkuchen shop I took them to during the tour, they purchased two and said they were very delicious.

I recommended that they visit the Peace Memorial Museum after the tour, and when I guided them through the Fukuromachi Elementary School Peace Museum, they said it was wonderful because they were able to learn personal stories that cannot be found in ordinary books.

I am glad the guests enjoyed the tour. They were a very close-knit group, and it made me feel happy as well.

Hello! My name is Miki. I was born and brought up in Hiroshima. I enjoy traveling around Inland Sea areas and I enjoy chatting with guests from overseas!

In Hiroshima, you can see many beautiful rivers and old bridges. Lately, I often take photos of Hiroshima city including bridges and rivers. There are not many tall buildings here, but I know some places you can visit and see the view for free. By the atomic bomb dome, there is a building called Orizuru(paper crane) Tower. You need to pay to go up to the top floor but you can see the view of Hiroshima city and the Miyajima Island(Itsukushima).

Many tourists from overseas as well as Japan want to visit Miyajima Island. You can see a beautiful shrine from Heian Period which is around 12th century and a huge Torii gate in front of the shrine and it is in the water. There are several ways to visit the island from Hiroshima city. If you are going to stay near JR Hiroshima Station, we will visit the island by JR train and JR ferry. If you are staying in the city area, we can go there by streetcar and ferry, or there is a high-speed boat from Peace Memorial Park pier directly to the island and vise versa.
